MWC Classic 46mm Limited Edition XL Automatic Military Pilots Watch with Sapphire Crystal

SKU Code: CLIX/SH2

The MWC Classic Aviator range draws its inspiration directly from the iconic pilot watches of the 1940s. Each model echoes the style and spirit of the time, offering a modern, reliable automatic watch with the unmistakable character worn by military pilots between 1940 and 1945.

This particular version features a traditional small-seconds subdial positioned above 6 o’clock — a hallmark of early-1940s aviation watches. Other models in the range use a sweep second hand, a design that became more common from around 1943 onward. With both styles available, it’s easy to choose the look that best suits your own tastes.

The extra-large 46 mm case (excluding crown) gives the watch significant wrist presence and tends to attract plenty of admiring comments from fellow watch enthusiasts. The generous dial size also ensures excellent readability, day or night, just like the WWII originals.

Inside, the watch houses a traditional 22-jewel automatic movement, beating at 21,600 BPH. The clear exhibition caseback provides a full view of the mechanism, complete with MWC-engraved rotor.

About Sapphire Crystal

Many customers ask why sapphire is preferred over mineral glass. In simple terms: strength, clarity, and resilience. Synthetic sapphire is exceptionally hard, highly scratch-resistant, and far more impact-resistant than even hardened mineral glass. This makes it especially popular among military personnel, police officers, security contractors, and anyone who leads an active outdoor lifestyle — groups that make up more than 70% of our customer base.

In our experience, over 90% of cracked crystals we see are mineral glass, despite our use of strengthened variants. Sapphire’s durability comes from both its material composition and a heat-treatment process that eliminates internal stresses before the crystal is cut and coated with anti-reflective layers. It’s the same reason sapphire is now used on premium smartphones such as the latest iPhone models.

While sapphire does increase production cost, it offers exceptional longevity — which is why it’s the material of choice on higher-end timepieces.
